Through the Tunnel

PLOT

Through the Tunnel by Dorris Lessing is a short story about a young English boy called Jerry who was preparing for the routine on swimming and sunbathing. It was during the the holiday were Jerry was going to the shore.Jerry used to see that his mother had gained her beach were he began the steep descent to the bay. He was a good swimmer and used to go out fast over the gleaming sand until the last step then other people. People used to be suprised when Jerry is swimming because he knows how to swim and can dive well like a fish. He have a caring mother who used to advise him and give him a patient. After a long routine Jerry was bleeding, felt weak and dizzy. He learned how to hold his breath while under water to  avoid problems. Jerry exercise his lungs for him to become dependent. The young boy was angry when he wasted a day of his self-training due to his nose which was bleeding. Lastly he make it to pass through the tunnel and he was incredulous and proud to find out that he could hold his breath without a strain for two minutes and it brought the adventure close to him.


SETTING

It took place at the  beach in Villa near the sea during summer.


MAIN CHARACTER

Jerry was the main character, who's a young English boy. He was a good swimmer and was preparing for a swimming routine which has to took place at the sea. Jerry was competing against other people. He was having a caring mother who always advice him were his going wrong. The young boy can dive and be under water for two to three minutes, he can swim like a fish. Jerry was proud when he get through the tunnel although many obstacles happen to him during his routine. He was such a lovely kid who like to try his level best.
